Changing Trends in Model Industry for Plus Size Women

For years, the body image perception in the fashion industry is never changed, despite having stick thin and skeletonized bodies, female models are considered idols for many young girls and they literally starved themselves to achieve the goal of being skinny.

Some years ago, we hardly saw models on run ways or fashion shows whose size were more than size 6; but then designers started to realise that there was a big demand in fashion markets for plus size women and it was a huge opportunity for them to cater this demographic market; and of course, they have had to choose curvy models to show case their designs.

In Australia, Robyn Lawley who has become a pioneer in plus size modelling, the 25 years old, six foot tall and size 16 model also is the first full figured model to appear on the Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit edition.

Recently, Tess Holiday (based in the USA) a rising plus size model star and who got female audience cheering and applauding when she was walking on stage. She‘s proven that modelling is not only for size 0 but also for plus size figures: the size of at least 50% of women in the society.

Jessica Gomes and Criticism about The Model.

It is hard to become a popular model but it's even harder to accept non sense criticism from some people in the fashion industry. Jessica Gomes is not an exception,the beautiful bombshell Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who has been admired by all over the world men for her curves. She is the new David Jones ambassador for their new season spring/summer 2013 fashion launch; at the catwalk show, there were some criticisms among the guests about her stretchmarks as well as her curves. It's really ridiculous that the critics think Jessica is an over weight models! Off course if compare her with stick thin models, she has more flesh and curves than them, and people who were invited to most of fashion catwalks getting used to see itsy bitsy models. It's why they made bad remarks when they saw her. In my view, she has a perfect body with perfect curves that make her stand out of the model crowd. "When you're young, you want to fit in, you want to be accepted and you're still trying to find yourself and what type of person you are. Now I just feel really comfortable in my own skin and really at the end of the day, I've found a balance with my life that if all was to go away, I'd still be a really happy person." Miami Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2014

 As usual, the Miami Mercedes Benz Fashion week swim 2014 mainly targets slim and young girls but from the event, it gives me some trend indication for my next summer Curvysea plus size swimwear collection.

There is a variety of summer swimwear at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim 2014.  This time, designs are combined between modern and vintage, from skimpy Brazilian typed bikini to high waisted swimming pants; patterns and colours are also varied between designers:  From geometric patterns for one piece swimsuits and two piece bikinis (Cia Maritima collection) to beautiful colour mixed prints of kaftans and two piece from Caffe Swimwear Summer 2014.  Aqua Di Lara show included cut-out one piece monokinis and daring bikinis in vertical mixed prints. At Beach Bunny, sheer kaftan and tiny tweeny swim bottoms steal the show. Animal and tribal prints are still shown on different designers’ collections such as in Mara Hoffman’s show (South East Asia tribal) or in Cia Maritima’s design (animal print). Polka dots on two-piece Marilyn Monroe’s styles come back in trend as we can see at Nicolita’s show.

Curvysea New Seasoned Women's Swimwear 2013

My summer women's swimwear collection is due to hit Australia shores in October 2012 offering fashion-savvy plus sized women a lot of new swimwear style and colour choices.  The collection theme is "Me and My Beach"
Arriving just in time for warmer months, the latest swimwear collection offers trendy colours such as magenta pink; neon blue and bright Jacaranda with a touch of metallic trims; along with a variety of designs.
The new seasoned swimwear is designed to make plus size women feel beautiful, and with a design philosophy of relaxed sophistication.With bright colour blocking as a key trend for the season ahead, make a statement with the must-have Curvysea swimwear.

What Swimwear Styles are Suitable for Plus Size Women?

It is a challenge for a plus size woman to find a swimsuit which fits her as well as flattering her appearance. So if it is your challenge, which style or design would give you a flattering solution?

- If you have a short neck or double chin: Avoid wearing swimwear styles with high neck cuts, it will make your neck look even shorter or the chin will look more obvious, instead, a swimsuit with a deep V neck cut or deep U neck cut will drive the eye away from the neck.

- If you have large arms: A swimwear with bright or bold prints on the bust will attract the attention and shift it away from the arms. You can also camouflage them by putting on a cotton or sheer polyester tunic / kaftan with deep colour when you get out of water.

- If your hips and thighs are large: A swimdress with colourful prints on the bust and plain dark/deep colours on the rest of the swimwear will do the tricks and will take the eye attention to the bust.

It has a similar effect for 2 piece skirtinis swimwear. The skirtini top with bold and beautiful all over print will distract the eye and the deep/dark plain coloured skirt will camouflage the hips and thighs.

- Tummy sticking out: Most plus size women face this problem. Swimdress with empire waist, a high-waisted dress, gathered just under bust with a long, loose skirt would be the best solution especially if there is colourful, bright print on the bust and the rest of the dress is in plain dark color.

A big "no-no" swimwear styles/designs for large size women are:

-Bikinis: They will show all of your bulging flesh and will attract staring.

-Monokinis (An one piece swimsuit with large cut-outs at the sides, front and back, with top and bottom connected only by a thin strap). These styles are suitable for young females with a flat stomach. The style has absolutely no support and no flaw camouflage for full figures.

-Swimwear with very high leg cuts, transparent swimwear (see-through when it is wet) or horizontal striped swimsuit.

Swimsuit style is a matter of personal choice but make sure you choose a swimsuit that you feel great wearing and you will enjoy this summer in style.

That's great news! I always support models with real curves on catwalk. I have been at many fashion shows and all I have seen were tall, thin models who showed off most of their ribs instead of their boobs or bums. An ideal model's body size should be like Marilyn Monroe's body (Size 14) and should represent the majority of women's bodies in our society.

Curvysea will launch its new season swimwear and lingerie collection for Summer 2009/2010 soon and its theme will be "Beautiful Plus Size".
